27 yıldır fotoğraf ve görece daha kısa süredir video işleriyle ilgilenen biri olarak iki boyutlu dünyamdan eserler paylaşıyorum bu sayfalarda. “Portre, yemek, mekân, contemporary, entertainment, urban ve İstanbul” konularıyla daha fazla ilgilendiğimi sen de göreceksin.
Dergi fotoğrafçılığıyla başladığım kariyerimin rotasını çok kısa bir süre içinde “reklâm ve entertainment”a çevirdim. Bunda; biraz çalıştığım ajanslar, biraz da sağlam prodüksiyonlu işlerin sadece “yaratım”ı düşünecek alan açması etkili oldu. Aşağıda bir kısmını sıraladığım müşteri listemden de anlayacağın üzere çok farklı sektörlerde üretimlerim oldu.
Beni “Hangi akım, ne kadar etkiledi?…” cevaplamam çok zor. Dönem dönem, özellikle “color correction” konusunda farklı fikirlerin peşine düştüğüm oldu.
Sanatın hangi alanı için olursa olsun, “En İyi Olma Çabası”nın beyhude bir çaba olduğunu erken yaşlarda fark ettim; önemli olan “Farklı Olmaktı”. Bunu fark etmem, kendimle didişmemi ve farklı fotoğrafçılardan minimum seviyede etkilenmemi sağladı. Gördüklerini iki boyuta en doğru şekilde indirgeyebilmenin birçok tekniğe hâkim olmayı zorunlu kıldığını ancak bunu “herkes gibi” yapmaktan kaçınmak gerektiğini fark ettim. Bu beni “sadelik”le tanıştırdı. Sadelik, kirlilikten kaçmamak, sert ışık, kontrast ve gren sevdiğim unsurlar. Tabii ki endüstriyel çekimlerde çok özgür olamıyorsun. O çekimlerde dişlinin en önemli parçası olsan da storyboard’a büyük ölçüde sadık kalman ve temiz kareler çıkarman şart.
İlk günden beri “Siyah Beyaz”ın gücü beni çok etkilemiştir. Çünkü siyah beyaz fotoğraf, sanatçının kompozisyon yeteneğini tüm çıplaklığıyla ortaya çıkarır. Tüm sanatların özünün doğru kompozisyon olduğuna inanıyorum. Bunun illaki bir sosyolojik altyapısı olması gerekmiyor. Sadece lekelerden oluşan bir çalışma da etkileyici ve kendine uzun uzun baktırır bir kompozisyonda olmalı.

As someone who has been involved in photography for 27 years and in video for somewhat less, I share pieces of my two-dimensional world on these pages. You’ll notice that I’m particularly drawn to portraits, food, spaces, contemporary work, entertainment, urban life, and Istanbul.
I began my career in magazine photography, but very quickly shifted my path toward advertising and entertainment. This change was shaped partly by the agencies I worked with and partly by the freedom that well-produced projects gave me to focus solely on creation. As you’ll see from the client list I’ve included below, my work spans a wide range of industries.
It’s genuinely difficult for me to answer the question “Which movement influenced you the most?” Over the years, especially in color correction, I’ve chased different ideas and approaches.
Very early in my life, I understood that striving to be “the best” in any art form is a futile effort. What truly matters is being different. Realizing this helped me stop wrestling with myself and minimized how much other photographers influenced me. I learned that translating what you see into two dimensions in the most accurate way requires mastering many techniques, yet doing it “like everyone else” is something to avoid. That realization introduced me to simplicity. Simplicity, for me, means not fearing imperfection. I’m drawn to harsh light, contrast, and grain. Of course, in industrial shoots you don’t get to be entirely free. Even when you’re a crucial part of the machinery, you’re expected to stay faithful to the storyboard and deliver clean frames.
Since the very beginning, the power of Black and White has deeply affected me. Black and white photography reveals an artist’s sense of composition in its rawest form. I believe that the essence of all art lies in strong composition. It doesn’t necessarily need a sociological foundation. Even a work composed only of shapes and patches can be compelling if the composition holds you in place.
